Come responsabile scientifico di MAGIC devo dire che l'interpretazione va
oltre il risultato... Che spero sia per voi comunque interessante.

Questa era la descrizione ufficiale che ho spedito in giro (un po' tecnica)

MAGIC detected a big gamma-ray flare in the galaxy Mkn501. The galaxy has a
black hole (BH) in the center, so the flare is probably due to a change in
its accretion rate (to simplify, a large mass falling in the BH). The
luminosiy of the galaxy doubled in 2 minutes. The arrival time of the
photons > 10 TeV was displaced by 4 minutes with respect to the arrival time
of the photons at about 100 GeV. This can be due to some peculiar dynamics
of the accretion process, or to a dependence of the speed of light on
energy. If we take tha last hypothesis, and we assume, as Amelino-Camelia
and Ellis, a dependence on the energy of the Quantum Gravity unification
scale E_QG such that v=c(1-E/E_QG), we obtain E_QG~0.03M_P, where M_P is the
Planck mass. I'ts a nice result - although it is not excluded that some
funny dynamics is at work... The paper is .

Alessandro
